How a Navy SEAL taught me to finish the race. Are you running the race for God and crossing the finishing line of your race?
I was at our men’s group last week with a great group of men. We’re all learning how to grow in our Christian walk, stumbling at times, but the men reach out and give a hand up to help each of us to continue to move forward.
One of the men, Mike, described that he always knows that God is there for him because he described a number of “encounters” that told him that God was watching out for him. But he still felt that God was not “close to him” in his walk.
God pinged me His thoughts about this subject, and Jimmy’s SEAL experience came to light to describe what I was to learn. As I have told Jimmy before, I listen to his every word because I’m a learner that looks for “iron sharpens iron” opportunities to learn and grow.
While this discussion was a God “ping” to me for sure, I needed some time to digest this new information, to fully grasp the entire message God wanted me to know. Here is what I have learned.
The most common comment I hear from wannabepreneurs, those entrepreneurs that are “stuck” in their thinking, is, “I need money/capital to start my business!” It reminds me of this video.
God gave you a brain, use it.
James 1:5 says, “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” The word “ask” is present, imperative, meaning we’re COMMANDED to CONTINUALLY ask God for wisdom!
Pro 3:27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in your power to do it.
A few months ago, I heard Stephanie Riggs speak at our Writers on the Rock Highland Ranch group. She spoke about how our Christian life as writers can influence the world for the better with God’s help and direction.
Celebrities can be inundated by people wanting their endorsements and testimonials for a company’s products and service. Naive entrepreneurs or authors think that ANY endorsement or testimonial should be for their having, not realizing that celebrity testimonials REQUIRE there be a good fit between both the celebrity and the product or service.
Not one to PUSH my book like a carnival barker, I mostly kept quiet throughout the evening. As we were walking out after our meeting, she asked me if she take a look at my book. With most requests, I have had some people use their “status” to ask for my book and I never hear back. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. My usual thought is, “There goes another $5.50 from my inventory for a starving author!” as I contemplate any request. Plus, trying a product is one thing, reading a 250 page book takes time, in fact many weeks or even months to read books by authors.
I handed my book and a few of my cards to her and a short prayer, “Lord, you know my situation, I’m taking a step of faith here!” Well, Stephanie came through.
As a Christian entrepreneur, it never ceases to amaze me when God does something in my life, mostly it’s the little things. A small blessing here, a bit larger blessing there, but after this last event, I see how God goes over the top to show Himself to us.
And by over the top, I mean He stretches our belief and faith in ways only He knows will stretch it. Just as beginning to run a marathon, you don’t start out running 26 miles, you build up to it.
Same with God and our belief. Our belief is so small that if He did do something big, we’d most likely have unbelief, and that is what He does NOT want us to have. So it means we have to learn and grow our faith over time, ever bigger and bigger over time.
We need a mindset shift in the Christian community, from being a consumer to a prosumer. The definition of a consumer is: a person who purchases goods and services for personal use.
The definition of a prosumer is: a prospective consumer who is involved in the design, manufacture, or development of a product or service.
We have too long in America have revelled in what we can buy for ourselves, and it IS a blessing what we have, but in reality, purchasing lots of stuff for ourselves does NOT help others in the long run.
There is a familiar saying among some churches. “Some believers are so heavenly bound that they’re no earthly good.”
It’s one thing to want to do God’s will, but to be so caught up in doing “heavenly” or “spiritual” things that you lose site of your earthly purpose, and what’s around you, you’ve missed your calling.
When you’re born, you were born with certain inalienable talents and skills. Yes, you were born with them. No one can ever take them away from you because God created you, and no one else has the same sets of talents and skills and personality. Over time growing up you’ve tested yourself at each step of the way to see what you can perform and how well. You’ve learned to crawl, walk, then run physically, so it is with your talents and skills.
When it comes to finding what we’re to do in life, it begins with YOU!
Because God designed YOU for a specific purpose. But don’t be alarmed if God changes your directions. There are two directions that are possible.
If you turn yourself around, like the prodigal son, you’re switching from going YOUR way to going GOD’S way. That is turning around. Some people need to turn around, 180 degrees.
But it’s what happens AFTER you find out your new direction. That is your WHAT. WHO are you and WHAT are you to do with your life. In startup language, a new direction is called a pivot. It does not have to be 180 degrees, but it can be a 10 or 25 degrees from where you are heading now, but it is a change of direction.
The next question after your what is finding your WHY. Do you want to know your WHY? Read and watch below.
I was talking with a new friend, Nannette DiMascio, and we have begun a conversation that I hope will continue for a long time.
As with any discussion, the banter back and forth we had echoes in my mind and causes me to ask more questions, which awakens both insights and deep insights into new connections with God, the Bible, content and the subject of business and commerce.
Just like a old coffee mill grinds the coffee beans into smaller pieces of coffee grounds to create a cup of coffee, so, too, grinding through a conversation and ideas and words creates a good cup of content and awakens new business and blessings.
But hold onto your hats, there is much more to restoring God’s view of business, and it has to do with blessings. Bountiful blessings, exponential blessings that pour out of an abundance mindset. Blessings translate into business and visa versa.
