God’s will is your work.
Here’s not only an excerpt from my new book, but an expansion of the thought I wrote about.
As with any book, you have “limitations” that occur or are evident, namely what the market will bear and/or what does the market want. In most cases you do not follow your “business plan” into the marketplace, but you follow Business Model Generation and put your product into the market and get feedback and see if it sells.
I was reading my Bible one day while writing my newest book, How Would Jesus Do Business? and was struck by a thought, or as I call it, a “God ping.” You know, those moments when something strikes your brain and catches you off guard a bit and you have to stop and listen. It felt like watching a drop of water fall onto a heated and oiled iron skillet. Once it hits, it gets all “excited” and goes everywhere on the skillet. Well, this “God ping” was one of them. I was reading the below verses, but it was these verses that kicked off the water jumping and spattering:
1 Cor 3:6-8 I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth. So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth. Now he who plants and he who waters are one; but each will receive his own reward [Or, wages] according to his own labor. [emphasis added]
Of course, this above verse connected with this verse:
1 John 5:14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.
And that connected with this verse:
1 Cor 3:12-14 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, fnprecious stones, wood, hay, straw, each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward.
Interpretation is when Scripture is compared with Scripture, you can outline the steps from the above verses into a sequence that shows growth and process:
- Follow God’s will (discovering ALL of your talents, skills, experiences) for your life right now.
- We work together on a Christ-centered team.
- God causes the growth.
- God gives us the rewards we deserve.
What is our responsibility?
- Find God’s will in our lives (he’s given you a strong hint of what you’re to do because of your talents you were born with).
- Find a team to connect with, because you’ll never do it alone.
- Find someone that needs your strength in their weakness and serve them!!
- Then do the work God called you to do serving others.
Then, leave the rest up to God, your work is done, all you have to do is collect your rewards at the end of your race.
Rev 22:12 Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.
