A few months ago, I heard Stephanie Riggs speak at our Writers on the Rock Highland Ranch group. She spoke about how our Christian life as writers can influence the world for the better with God’s help and direction.
Celebrities can be inundated by people wanting their endorsements and testimonials for a company’s products and service. Naive entrepreneurs or authors think that ANY endorsement or testimonial should be for their having, not realizing that celebrity testimonials REQUIRE there be a good fit between both the celebrity and the product or service.
Not one to PUSH my book like a carnival barker, I mostly kept quiet throughout the evening. As we were walking out after our meeting, she asked me if she take a look at my book. With most requests, I have had some people use their “status” to ask for my book and I never hear back. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. My usual thought is, “There goes another $5.50 from my inventory for a starving author!” as I contemplate any request. Plus, trying a product is one thing, reading a 250 page book takes time, in fact many weeks or even months to read books by authors.
I handed my book and a few of my cards to her and a short prayer, “Lord, you know my situation, I’m taking a step of faith here!” Well, Stephanie came through.
“Ephesians 1:11 says it’s in Christ that we found what we are living for. Jesus gave his life so we could live the glorious plan He has for each of us! So then why would we not think to ask how Jesus how to do business? Kevin Culls did and managed to pack some of those insights into a powerful reminder that long before you and I were born, God planned this moment. He longs for each of us to know why he created us and the plans He has for us, including our businesses! Thank you Kevin for this much needed reminder.” Stephanie Riggs – Award-winning Journalist and TV News Anchor
Thank you Stephanie, you have blessed me beyond measure. And because of your thoughtfulness and testimonial blessing me, I pass ALL of the praise and glory to God for not only having our paths cross, but that my book has blessed you with His message.
But like the Bible verse says, do NOT withhold good, on BOTH sides of a blessing. Why? Because giving the book to Stephanie and with her giving her testimonial/book review gave me much needed encouragement, but the most important, she gave me a testimonial because my book had blessed her!! While I had been told on more than one occasion, “You’ll get a big head if I tell you you have been a blessing to me.” In reality, sharing VITAL encouragement to someone that has helped you might lift them up and encourage them to do more, too!
If Stephanie had not told me that my book blessed her, I can receive the blessings NOR can I give God the praise, too. See how we’re not to withhold good when it is in our power to do good?
So, find someone that has blessed you and tell me, to not only encourage them, but to ensure God gets the praise.
P.S. Because I’m a self published author, the nice thing is I can update my interior and exterior covers anytime of the day or night, not like other book publishers that have you “locked in” for 18-24 months.
